All new learner permit holders must complete 12 Essential Driver Training lessons before sitting their driving test. Lessons 1 to 8 follow the syllabus in order, while lessons 9 to 12 can be arranged with your ADI.
The RSA recommends leaving time between lessons for practice and learning, including accompanied practice with a sponsor. Spread the lessons over six months where possible.
Preparing properly
Your ADI will record each lesson in your logbook and advise you on the skills to practise. The Road Safety Authority publishes reference material such as Rules of the Road and the Car Learner Manual.
